In this talk I will reflect on my own experience about the usefulness and acceptance of machine learning for doing social science. I will argue that machine learning may not revolutionize the social sciences. But having a computer scientist with analytical skills (including ML) in your research team could be a competitive advantage today, and it will be indispensable in the future.
